Proof of Space is a cryptographic technique where provers show that they allocate unused hard drive space for storage space. In order to be used as a consensus method, Proof of Space must be tied to Proof of Time. PoT ensures that block times have consistency in the time between them and increases the overall security of the blockchain.

Wheat is a direct fork of the Chia™ Network codebase built by space farmers as a fully decentralized alternative green cryptocurrency that can be secured alongside Chia™ while consuming negligible additional power. We aim to be a community-driven fork reflecting the will of our users, while promoting and recognizing excellent contributions to the Chia and Flax user communities. Flax is not affiliated with Chia Network, Inc., but builds on their great open-source work.
Wheat uses the Proof of Space and Proof of Time consensus algorithm to validate the transactions on its blockchain that was proposed by the creators of Chia. Wheatis essentially a fork of Chia that has no pre-mining and no infinite supply as opposed to Chia’s project.
Cryptocurrency has no intrinsic value. Its value doesn't come from any person or corporate entity but from broad community support as well as supply and demand. We aim to build a great community by users for users. The value of Wheat is currently unknown without an exchange listing, and you should treat it as worthless internet brownie points in the most probable case. Please don't buy new hardware to farm Wheat .
Yes, existing Chia™ plots can be used to farm on the Wheat Network. For the safety of your valuable private keys, we encourage you to audit the Wheat source code (see the diff between Wheat 1.1.7 and upstream Chia 1.1.7) before deciding to run Wheat. If you are unable to evaluate the security of our changes, we recommend that you use separate private keys and plots to farm Wheat.
Wheat’s idea has been inspired by Chia’s project, but Chia is and is working as a for-profit organization. It would take 21 years for the Chia farmers to farm as many Chia tokens as there have been pre-mined already; thus, the project is extremely susceptible to the development team and is not truly decentralized. On the other hand, no Wheat coins have been pre-farmed in order to achieve total decentralization. With the creation of Wheat, we are looking to provide an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative for cross-border transactions via the blockchain technology.
Wheat uses the Proof of Space and Proof of Time consensus algorithm, which is much more energy-efficient than the Proof of Work one that is used by e.g. Bitcoin. Besides, there is no need to buy specialized hardware that has been built with the single purpose to mine Bitcoin. In general, you can use free disk space to farm Wheat tokens.
